Purpose: |

The Housing Service produces policy documents to outline the guidelines the service follows to meet service objectives or outcomes. Policies identify key activities and guide the decision-making process on how to handle issues or comply with legislation, regulation or other forms of statutory compliance. Residents have frequently requested updates on the service’s work and preparation to comply with new ‘Awaab’s Law’ legislation which commences on 27th October 2025. We’ve provided attendees with our draft Damp & Mould policy for awareness and to provide an update on our work to proactively identify, treat and prevent damp and mould within our tenants’ homes.

This policy outlines Brighton & Hove City Council’s commitment to proactively identifying, treating and preventing damp and mould within our tenants’ homes. It aims to ensure that all residents live in safe, healthy and well-maintained homes, free from conditions that could negatively impact health and wellbeing. It also outlines the Council’s legal obligations and our commitments to continuous improvement, transparency and engagement.
